Empowering through business
John and his family arrived in South Asia in 2012 with the vision of setting up a manufacturing and export company that provides employment and vocational training to local women who were at high risk for exploitation.
Through the business, they have offered full-time employment to more than 20 women. Through employment, the women have a practical means of earning and providing for their families. Before joining, most of the ladies struggled to survive as day laborers.
Now, through consistent and steady employment, they are able to provide their kids with educational opportunities they themselves did not have, seek necessary medical care for themselves and the children and several of the ladies have even been able to purchase or construct modest homes.
The business draws upon the beauty and artistry of local fabrics and transforms vintage silk saris into plush stuffed animals that are exported abroad. John is grateful for the network of professionals with whom he has been able to interact and collaborate with since joining Global Progress.
